Yogyakarta, August 07, 2026 — Turning academic expertise into practical community impact, Afriansyah Tanjung, S.H., M.Kn., M.H., a faculty member of the Law School at Universitas Siber Muhammadiyah (SiberMu), presented two community service projects at the 4th International Conference of Community Service on August 17, 2026.
Afriansyah presented two papers addressing contemporary legal and social issues, highlighting SiberMu’s commitment to strengthening academic collaboration and ensuring that scholarly knowledge contributes directly to the community.
Bridging Health Law and Digital Transformation
The first paper, “Understanding of Medical Personnel Related to the Integration of Informed Consent Form Documentation and Informed Refusal into Electronic Medical Records,” was developed in collaboration with Ahdiana Yuni Lestari, S.H., M.Hum., from the Health Law Department, Faculty of Law, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), who served as the principal project lead.
The project responds to the rapid digital transformation of healthcare services, particularly the increasing use of electronic medical records. It focuses on strengthening medical personnel’s understanding of the legal and practical dimensions of integrating informed consent and informed refusal documentation into electronic systems. The collaboration brings together legal and healthcare perspectives to address emerging challenges in digital health governance and the protection of patients’ rights.
Bringing Islamic Inheritance Law Closer to the Community
The second paper, “Socialization of Islamic Inheritance Law for Muhammadiyah Members,” was developed in collaboration with Prihati Yuniarlin, S.H., M.Hum., from the Department of Private Law, Faculty of Law, UMY, who served as the principal researcher. The project focuses on strengthening community understanding of Islamic inheritance law through accessible legal education. By bringing legal knowledge closer to community members, the initiative aims to support greater awareness of inheritance rights and responsibilities and encourage the application of legal principles in everyday family and community life.
From Academic Collaboration to Community Impact
The two projects demonstrate how collaboration among higher education institutions can extend beyond academic exchange and contribute to concrete community empowerment. For SiberMu, the participation also represents an effort to nurture meaningful collaboration between academics while integrating research and community service outputs into activities that respond to real societal needs.
“Academic collaboration should ultimately create an impact beyond the campus. Knowledge becomes more meaningful when it can be shared with communities, address real problems, and contribute to better practices,” Afriansyah said
Through the participation of its faculty members in international academic forums, SiberMu continues to expand its collaborative networks while promoting a model of higher education that connects academic excellence, collaboration, and community impact.
The two projects also open opportunities for continued collaboration between SiberMu and UMY, particularly in developing community-based initiatives in health law, private law, legal education, and other emerging areas of legal practice.
